I am based in Alfold, near Cranleigh, and design bespoke gardens for homes across Surrey. Working from within the county means I can be on site while a garden is being built, not only at the beginning and the end.
Every garden is individual. I look at the character of the house and the landscape around it, listen carefully to the people who live there, and design a garden that feels as though it belongs. Running through all of it: planting with four-season interest, sustainable detailing considered from the first sketch, and, wherever the garden suits it, water.
On site I look at sun and shade, privacy, levels, drainage, existing planting, neighbouring properties and the wider landscape. Surrey gardens vary enormously over a short distance, and those practicalities decide what a design can honestly promise.
A Surrey garden in detail
The Water & Wellbeing Garden is a one-acre family garden in Surrey, built around three naturalistic waterfalls, an island Breeze House and a three-metre corten steel moon gate. It took six months to build.
Water in a Surrey garden
Water has become one of the distinctive elements of my work. The sound of a waterfall, the movement of a stream or the reflection of light across a still pool changes the atmosphere of a garden completely.
I like water to feel as though it belongs in the landscape rather than being added as a decorative feature: naturalistic waterfalls and streams, wildlife and ecosystem ponds, reflective pools or pondless features, depending on the garden. Where appropriate I use chemical-free ecosystem water management, which makes for a healthier environment for people, plants and wildlife, and gives surrounding planting a cooler, more humid microclimate through hot summers.
Seeing the garden before it is built
Every design is built as a three-dimensional model, so you can see photorealistic views of your own garden before a single paving stone is laid: the scale of each space, the views from the house, and how planting, materials, lighting and water work together. It is also how we decide together where your investment will have the greatest effect.
Recognised work
In 2026, 100 Sweet Summers at the RHS Sandringham Flower Show received an RHS Silver-Gilt Medal and the RHS People’s Choice Award for Show Garden. At BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2025, QVC’s Reflective Retreat received a Platinum Award, Best Commercial Garden and the People’s Choice Award. At the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2025, ILLUSION 2050 received an RHS Silver Medal.
